3. Teaching Plan

This section gives the curriculum in science, specifically, in the Biology education, my teaching plan and teaching execution.

    3.1.  CURRICULUM

The curriculum in SMA Laboratorium UNSYIAH is anchored to the curriculum 2013 (K-13) which was implemented by the Indonesian government in order to replace the previous curriculum, Curriculum Education Unit (KTSP). In this K-13 curriculum, the three assessment aspects are highly observed; cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. Character education, integration of subjects, and the lesson delivery in thematic also make this curriculum distinct from the previous one. In line with science, the curriculum put exerting force on research and development unit, this is to promote scientific minds, inquiry and discovery among Indonesians to improve and contribute to the development of community and nation. According to my interviews to some teachers in SMA Labschool UNSYIAH such as Ms. Zuchra Ulfa, Science teacher; Ms. Nidar, English/Conversation teacher; and even to some senior high students, - the science curriculum becomes much strong and well-organized when the K-13 curriculum was implemented. As such, students in SMA Laboratorium are expose to scientific approaches. This is evident because laboratories in the school such as Computer, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology Laboratories are equipped and well facilitated by the current tools and instrument in scientific fields. Other than that, science books and manual are also updated for learning current cases.

Teaching plan at Biology education in Indonesia is quite similar to Philippine context. This is because during my observation to Dra. Kemala’s class, I’d noticed that her instructions in biology is primarily as student-centered-approached. Thus, it’d gave me an urge to understand more my students’ needs to have a better result in my teaching. I tend to analyze and recognize the prior learning of my students in biology lessons, the desired objectives based on their academic level and K-13 curriculum, the appropriate methods to be applied based on their learning preferences, and the holistic assessment to be given on them.

To give you more understanding about how I made my teaching plan, please refer to the lesson plan I’d used during my teaching about Taxonomy/Classification of Living Things and Virus.
